Assessing Coastal Reclamation Success in the East China Coast by Using Plant Species Composition

Quantitative analysis of the species composition and succession law a plant community in coastal reclamation area is great significance for revealing construction coexistence mechanisms, provides basis rational use conservation areas. Through investigation natural communities Dongtai adjacent national nature reserves Jiangsu Province, eastern China, were studied. A quantitative method was explored to analyze process its representative species. The results showed that (1) total 65 found vegetation survey. These belonged 26 families 61 genera, Poaceae most common unreclaimed areas mainly composed Cyperaceae. increased after reclamation, which Asteraceae; (2) coverage greatly reduced three years from 80% tidal flat 37.34%, then gradually increased, remained generally between 50% 70%; (3) above-ground biomass sharply 1.823 kg/m2 0.321 maintained at 0.11~0.27 kg/m2; (4)The wetland ecosystem affected by activities transformed halophyte dominated salt marsh (Suaeda salsa, Spartina alterniflora, Scirpus mariqueter, Phragmites australis) mesophyte constructed with pioneer such as Setaria viridis, Eleusine indica, etc., eventually succeeded xerophyte Humulus scandens Cyperus difformis, etc. Reclamation have profound impact on characteristics rules along ecosystems. period seven presumed be tipping point this study can provide reference ecological protection restoration
